Supporting Lucy’s Ashram Yoga Mission — Building Hope and Opportunities.

A Story from Wall Street to Varanasi

Manisha Stories joins hands with Lucy’s Ashram Yoga Mission, championed by Lucy Guest, whose remarkable journey from the high-paced world of Wall Street to the spiritual ghats of Varanasi is at the heart of this initiative. This partnership not only represents our commitment to enhancing educational opportunities but also mirrors the transformative journey of individuals dedicated to nurturing and empowering underprivileged children.

Lucy Guest’s Path to Varanasi:
Lucy's journey to Varanasi began with an early fascination with Sanskrit, hinting at a deeper connection to Indian spirituality that would shape her life’s work. Her academic pursuits took her to Oxford University in London, followed by a career on Wall Street in New York. However, a meditative experience in 1999 marked a pivotal shift in her focus towards the profound teachings of Patanjali’s Yoga and Sanskrit mantras, leading her from the bustling streets of Wall Street to the spiritual ghats of Varanasi.

The Inception of Lucy’s Ashram Yoga Mission:
The International Chandramuli Charitable Trust in Varanasi, led by Lucy Guest (Divya Prabha), was born out of a heartfelt encounter. The sad state of a local street sweeper, struggling with the loss of his wife and the future of his children, moved Divya Prabha. His plea for their education led her to establish Lucy's Ashram Yoga Mission, marking the start of a transformative journey dedicated to uplifting underprivileged children.

The International Chandramuli Charitable Trust:
In Varanasi, Divya Prabha’s vision came to life as the International Chandramuli Charitable Trust. Here, children engage in holistic practices from dawn and experience a diverse range of educational subjects, from ancient Vedas to modern computer science, reflecting Divya’s belief in the transformative power of knowledge.

Lucy’s Ashram Yoga Mission Expansion:
Currently, Lucy’s Ashram Yoga Mission is undertaking an ambitious expansion to better serve its students, including the completion of additional floors and facilities. These expansions will address critical space issues, enhancing the learning environment for the day school of 210 students and evening school for 175 students.

The Project Includes:

  • The completion of the ground floor, which requires an additional 1.58 Lakh for flooring ($2,106 USD)

  • The first floor, set to host three classrooms and a girls’ bathroom, requires 18 Lakh ($24,000 USD)

  • The second floor, planned for a computer lab, dining area, and kitchen, also requires 18 Lakh ($24,000 USD)

These additions are critical for the school, which currently faces severe space constraints. Imagine 25 students crammed into a room meant for far fewer, hindering both their learning and well-being.

Challenges and The Road Ahead:
The school, now a regulated entity, faces new challenges, particularly in meeting government salary regulations for teachers. The goal is to raise the current salaries from 16.5K Rs to the required standard, ensuring the sustainability of quality education.

The Bigger Picture:
Beyond academics, the school is a haven for children battling socio-economic adversities, often living in cramped, multi-generational homes, or even under less secure shelters. The school not only educates but also looks out for these children, offering them a place of safety, nourishment, and growth.

Current Status:
With 210 children attending the day school and 175 in the evening school, the impact is tangible. However, daily attendance fluctuates, emphasizing the need for a stable and inviting environment.

Our Role:
Manisha Stories steps in to bridge the financial gaps and support this noble cause. With the help of your support, we can make a real difference in expanding the school’s infrastructure, enhancing learning spaces, and providing the essential resources these children need.
